Young people in Healthy Children Healthy Futures create media to
encourage their peers and families to make healthier choices about nutrition and physical activity. They create media campaigns —print ads, posters, radio spots or animated public service announcements— using essentially the same process that professional advertising firms use to make the commercials and ads that are so familiar to us.

The young people participating in Healthy Children Healthy Futures are encouraged to learn about the tools and resources that professional advertisers use in developing their media messages. To this end, a professional advertising and public relations firm, SS&K of New York City, developed a
Creative Brief, something they use for each of their own professional ad campaigns. This Creative Brief demonstrates how young people might develop messages about healthy eating and physical activity that will resonate with their peers.

Show the Creative Brief to your group and talk about what it means. As the children do the activities to help them develop messages, refer to the Creative Brief often.
