• In the United States, broccoli was first grown by immigrants in Brooklyn, New York; Now, almost all of the broccoli eaten in the U.S. comes from California. • More grapes are grown around the world than any other fruit. • Mangoes, grown for more than 4,000 years, are the most popular fruit in the world. • Olive trees can live for more than 1,500 years. • Mosquitoes are more attracted to people who have recently eaten bananas. • Actually a fruit, it took a ruling by the Supreme Court in 1893 to make the tomato a vegetable. Their reason why: Since tomatoes are usually eaten during a meal and not after, they should be vegetables. • Although Georgia is known as the "Peach State," California produces the most U.S. peaches, about 60%. Georgia ranks second. |
