WEIGHT MANAGEMENT
Balance calories consumed with calories expended.
Follow the USDA’s My Pyramid Plan for appropriate calorie needs based on age, sex and activity level.

FOOD GROUPS TO ENCOURAGE
Consume enough fruits and vegetables while staying within calorie needs.
For a 2,000 calorie plan, eat 2 cups of fruit and 2½ cups veggies each day.
At least half of total grains consumed should be whole grains.
Consume 3 cups per day of fat-free or low-fat milk or the equivalent.

FAT
Keep total fat intake between 20 to 35 percent of calories, with most fats
coming from monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.

SALT
Consume less than 2,300 mg salt per day (that’s about 1 teaspoon) and
include potassium-rich foods, such as veggies and fruits.

SUGAR
Choose and prepare foods with little added sugars or caloric sweeteners.
