• Each participating school recruits a small group of parents (2-5) to be
parent advocates.
• Parent advocates use the materials in
the Parent Tool Kit to mentor other parents in small
or large groups on healthy eating and being active.
Parent advocates:
• Understand the challenges to healthy eating and physical activity in their
community.
• Work with their principals and other school officials.
• Recruit other interested parents for advocacy.
• Organize healthy eating and physical activity workshops or events for
parents.
• Address parent meetings with the help
of the school nurse, community health workers,
and/or other parents/school officials.
• Advocate for healthy snacks at school/community events.
• Push for healthy eating and physical activity programs in and after school.
