Each participating school recruits a small group of parents (2-5) to be parent advocates.

Parent advocates use the materials in the Parent Tool Kit to mentor other parents in small or large groups on healthy eating and being active.

Parent advocates:

Understand the challenges to healthy eating and physical activity in their community.

Work with their principals and other school officials.

Recruit other interested parents for advocacy.

Organize healthy eating and physical activity workshops or events for parents.

Address parent meetings with the help of the school nurse, community health workers, and/or other parents/school officials.

Advocate for healthy snacks at school/community events.

Push for healthy eating and physical activity programs in and after school.
