Eat at least a total of 5 fruits and vegetables a day.
Drink or eat at least 3 low-fat dairy foods a day.

Fun Things

Fiber is found in fruits, vegetables, beans, nuts, whole grains, and many breakfast cereals.
Fiber helps to fill you up and you may eat less. It also helps to keep blood sugar and blood cholesterol better managed.
Demonstrate the filling effects of fiber as follows: Stir a powdered fiber supplement, such as Metamucil®, into a glass of water. Pass the glass around as the fiber thickens in the water. Fiber, consumed in food, does the same thing inside our bodies. Remind parents that getting fiber from food is the best way to meet their needs, since foods with fiber also provide valuable nutrients.

Eat less fast food and make healthier fast food choices.

Fun Things

• Do a taste test of a few healthy oils, such as extra virgin olive oil and sesame oil.
• Taste by dipping small bread pieces into the oil. Suggest these oils are healthier to choose than margarine or butter mainly since they're liquid fats, not solid fats. Healthy fats are called monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat.
